Meehan Praises Upgrade of VA Health Records System

Congressman Patrick Meehan (R-Pa.), today praised the announcement by Secretary of Veterans Affairs David Shulkin that the VA will be modernizing its handling of electronic health records and replacing the existing system with the same commercial system used by the U.S. military.

"This upgrade is sorely needed and long overdue," said Congressman Meehan. "It will help veterans' health records follow them after they retire from the service, which will ease their transition into civilian life and reduce interruptions to care. It will improve the sharing of information between the VA's Health and Benefits Administrations, and I'm hopeful that it will reduce the time needed to attach medical records to benefits claims. It will also help the VA protect against cyber attacks on its healthcare infrastructure, and it will ensure veterans' records are available should they receive care from outside providers."

"There's still more work to do before our vets receive the quality and accessibility of care they deserve, but this is an encouraging step. I applaud Secretary Shulkin and the Trump Administration and I look forward to continuing to work to improve the VA," Meehan said.
